§ 140301 Organization

(a) Federal Charter.— The Military Chaplains Association of the United States of America (in this chapter, the “corporation”) is a federally chartered corporation.

(b) Perpetual Existence.— Except as otherwise provided, the corporation has perpetual existence.

§ 140302 Purposes

The purposes of the corporation are— to safeguard and strengthen the forces of faith and morality of our Nation; to perpetuate and deepen the bonds of understanding and friendship of our military service; to preserve our spiritual influence and interest in all members and veterans of the Armed Forces; to uphold the Constitution of the United States; and to promote justice, peace, and good will. § 140303 Powers

The corporation may— make its own organization, including its constitution, bylaws, and regulations; adopt and alter a corporate seal; establish and maintain offices to conduct its activities; appoint or elect officers and agents; authorize the executive committee to conduct the business and exercise the powers of the corporation; acquire, own, lease, encumber, and transfer property as necessary or appropriate to carry out the purposes of the corporation; publish a magazine and other publications; charge and collect membership dues and subscription fees; sue and be sued; and do any other act necessary or appropriate to carry out the purposes of the corporation. § 140304 Exclusive right to name

The corporation and its area, State, and local chapters have the exclusive right to use the name “The Military Chaplains Association of the United States of America”. ( Pub. L. 105–225 , Aug. 12, 1998 , 112 Stat. 1381 .)

§ 140305 Annual report

Not later than September 1 of each year, the corporation shall submit a report to Congress on the activities of the corporation during the prior calendar year. The report may not be printed as a public document. ( Pub. L. 105–225 , Aug. 12, 1998 , 112 Stat. 1381 .)
